On June 4, 2025, during the “Data, Finance & Enterprise” session of Super Vietnam 2025, Dr. Pham Tien Dung, Co-founder and Head of AI & Data Science Varmeta, shared a compelling message: Vietnam is standing at the edge of a powerful shift, a chance to lead what he called the dual-tech wave.
This wave refers to the growing convergence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Blockchain, two technologies that, when combined, can fundamentally change the way businesses operate.
Why the dual-tech wave matters
AI helps organizations make faster, smarter decisions using massive amounts of data. Blockchain, on the other hand, brings transparency, trust, and security to every transaction. Dr. Dung emphasized that it’s not about choosing one over the other, it’s about using both together to drive real, scalable innovation.
“These technologies enhance each other,” he noted. “Together, they unlock new possibilities that neither could achieve alone. That’s the promise of the dual-tech wave.”
Vietnam’s competitive edge in the tech race
Vietnam is demonstrating a strong capacity to adapt. In 2024, the country ranked 5th globally in crypto adoption and 39th out of 193 countries on the AI Readiness Index (Oxford Insights). Dr. Dung highlighted that while the foundation is solid, there’s still significant room for growth and now is the time to accelerate.
Vietnam’s advantages are clear:

- Low implementation costs
- A dynamic startup culture
- Minimal systemic barriers
These conditions make the country an ideal testbed for scalable, replicable digital solutions.
Real-world impact: AI & Blockchain in action
Dr. Dung pointed to real examples where AI and Blockchain are already making a difference:
- MyRCVR, a dispute management platform that integrates AI for automation and Blockchain for transaction logging, reduced processing time from weeks to mere hours. In Vietnam’s largely manual financial sector, this model is highly applicable.
- In education, Bitkub Academy issues diplomas as NFTs and uses AI to recommend jobs based on skills. Thousands of Southeast Asian students have already been matched with employers, this model is ready to be deployed at universities across Vietnam.
A strategic call to action
Dr. Dung urged businesses to start with operational pain points, the costly, inefficient bottlenecks ripe for transformation. SMEs, with their agility and openness to innovation, are well-positioned to lead. Forming alliances to share costs and exchange learnings will amplify success and build a more connected ecosystem.
From a policy perspective, he called for:
- A clear legal framework for Blockchain
- Investment in AI infrastructure and talent development
- Stronger industry–academia collaboration
